Still running on copper lines? Don’t worry, you’re not alone, but the clock is ticking. AT&T, Verizon, Lumen, and other traditional phone companies have begun phasing out traditional POTS (plain old telephone service) lines, and businesses that wait too long could suddenly find their fire alarms, elevator phones, or entry panels out of service. Don’t let your office get caught in the static, or worse, in silence.

Copper’s on Its Farewell Tour


Starting October 15, 2025, AT&T stopped supporting additions, changes, or moves to copper POTS lines across nearly 20 states. This is just the beginning, as all copper lines are expected to be fully retired by 2029. These lines still power critical systems like fire alarms, elevator phones, building entry panels, fax lines, and public safety phones. Millions of lines need to be migrated, so now’s the time to get ahead of the countdown.
